Innviertler Wirt closes: guests are looking for a new operator

“Pregnant boars are widely known for their strong tendency to socialize and for their chronic difficulties with staying at home,” says the initiators of this campaign themselves about the community residents. There is hardly an occasion that is not worth celebrating at least a little. The municipality of Eberschwang is considered to be the “club stronghold” in the Innviertel. It is therefore not surprising that the Eberschwangen associations, regulars’ tables and guests immediately jumped on the campaign that was launched by community citizens and, in an unusual way, are looking for successors for the innkeeper couple Uschi and Martin Pillichshammer. Both have run the inn in the village of Moarhof since 2004 and will close the inn at Christmas.

Supported by an advertising agency, the initiators immediately received dedicated support – from all age groups. “The Wirt z Moarhof is our young boy’s temple, our second home. This inn is the basic requirement for our entire club life. Anyone who has ever been a young boy or young boy’s dirndl will be happy to confirm this. And there are quite a few…” says Lukas Pillichshammer, head of the 1837 Eberschwang youth fraternity.

There was also immediate support from the Friday women’s group of the rifle and cross-country skiing club: “It doesn’t matter whether it’s eating out, visiting the outdoor dining area or just chatting and entertaining. A tavern like the Wirt z Moarhof is simply great for our group. Located in the middle of the village, with good food and on a friendly basis. It’s actually unimaginable without this host,” says Brigitte Hattinger.

The same applies to the gymnastics club, sports club, hunting club, fire brigade – there are at least six of them in Eberschwang – and the market band: “This inn is extremely important for our village life. Just as important as a local supplier. A regulars’ table is a cultural asset, sociability and exchange. Our own club premises is wonderful, but no competition and is only used for support at home games. The SVE needs the host z Moarhof,” says sports club chairman Helmut Berger.

For Fire Brigade Commander Rainer Kiehas, the “Wirt z’Moarhof” is also impossible to imagine. Last but not least, the Eberschwang carnival guild mourns the loss of the inn: “Eberschwang without Wirt z’Moarhof would be like a beer without foam,” says Gerald Mitterbauer from the carnival guild.

The inn itself has existed since the 1870s, in addition to the guest rooms on the ground floor there are also nine guest rooms. “But they could also be used as apartments for new tenants or an operator family,” says owner Johann “Hanki” Bleckenwegner. Details can be found on the website for this campaign: www.werwerdwirt.at.
