For SV Guntamatic Ried, tomorrow’s fall final in the Bundesliga at WSG Tirol is all about one thing: A conciliatory end to a year that hasn’t been too successful in sport.
The Innviertlers go into the last round of the autumn season with a two-point lead over bottom-placed Hartberg (today against Rapid Vienna). The Vikings are also in penultimate place in the annual table of Austria’s upper house: five wins, eleven draws and 13 defeats – this is how the result reads in 2022. And despite the modest sporting success, the club was able to learn a lot this year, like President Roland Daxl reveals: “It was a year from which we learned many lessons. Among other things, we remained calm during a difficult phase. I think that’s why we got the curve back in the fall.”
For the 48-year-old club boss, one game in particular was symbolic of why Ried’s results on the pitch were mixed: “After the 2-2 win against Sturm Graz in the previous season, in which we narrowly missed out on the championship round, we are in one Fell off a hole. We never got a real boob after that.”
Even after a period of weakness in the fall, he continues to support the decision to work with Christian Heinle, a regional, up-and-coming coach, to enter the professional business: “His commitment, intensity and motivation are top. Even in a difficult situation Everyone stood by him, that speaks for him.”
Readjustments have been made in the area of sports management: As reported in the OÖN, Wolfgang Fiala should support sports director Thomas Reicheltshammer again from the winter break: “Wolfgang was always a sports director, and recently took on more responsibility as a coach for the U18s. He will now be able to contribute more to the pros again. Wolfgang is a specialist, especially when it comes to scouting and sporting orientation – and the perfect complement to Reifi.”
Monschein back in the squad
The duo could add to the transfer market as early as winter. Daxl: “We will definitely do something.” A summer signing made the trip to Innsbruck yesterday: Christoph Monschein qualified again for the squad after not being nominated against Klagenfurt. Kingsley Michael is missing: David Ungar will represent the Nigerian in the center.
