Confusion about live stream archive

Confusion about live stream archive

The Linz municipal council meetings have been streamed online from home since September. However, the sessions can no longer be viewed afterwards, as there is no archive for this (yet).

As reported, the Greens are now campaigning for the live streams to be archived and made available to interested citizens on the YouTube video platform. After all, this is also common practice at the budgetary municipal council meetings (these have been broadcast live for a long time). They want to submit a corresponding municipal council proposal.

Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) is open to the proposal, he has announced that he wants to discuss it with City Director Ulrike Huemer.

For the ÖVP, however, the archive has long since been decided: club boss Elisabeth Manhal refers to the decision made in August in the city senate on the subject of live broadcasts. Archiving was part of it.

“In order to be close to the citizens, the video transmission of the municipal council meetings must also be archived and be retrievable afterwards. So for us the question is not if, but only when,” says Manhal.

According to information from the municipal administration to the VP parliamentary group, work is already underway to implement archiving, and the service and thus the recordings should be available by early 2023 at the latest. (jp)
