New asylum quarters in Hirschbach and Ried

With the dismantling of the tents at the federal asylum district of St. Georgen im Attergau on Thursday evening, there was a new dynamic in the accommodation of the increasing number of people who have applied for asylum. In the coming days, 40 asylum seekers in Hirschbach and in Ried in der Riedmark should find a solid roof over their heads.

In both cases, it is empty catering establishments that are being adapted. For example in Hochstrass in the municipality of Ried in der Riedmark. The country plans to accommodate 25 people here. Mayor Christian Tauschek (SP) criticizes that action is being taken head over heels: “The announcement came overnight and shows that the state councilor for social affairs, Hattmannsdorfer, is apparently completely overwhelmed by the situation.”

In 2016, Ried made a major contribution to overcoming the crisis with a container village run by the Diakonie. “But the location was very close to the town center with a good opportunity to integrate. The circumstances in Hochstrass are completely different. That can’t work. But obviously you don’t talk to the communities.”

As early as this weekend, the move into the converted building in Hirschbach in the former discotheque “cheeese” directly on the B38 should begin. 16 Syrian asylum seekers will move here from Hörsching. “We will then see how the operation plays out,” says Mayor Wolfgang Schartmüller (VP). An increase to a maximum of 40 residents is possible. When it became known, many residents in the community were angry about this use: they organized a signature campaign. 600 citizens articulated their concerns in this way. Most recently, concerns came from the neighboring sports airfield that the residents could carelessly venture onto the airfield just a few meters away and thus trigger dangerous situations.

The Freedomists in particular are behind this protest, although they are not represented in Hirschbach itself on the municipal council. District party chairman Peter Handlos: “I understand every citizen who has signed against the asylum camp. The potential danger is too great for many. Driving over communities and citizens will not go well for long.” (live)
