A sticker collection hunt on the trail of Wels town history

A sticker collection hunt on the trail of Wels town history

The anniversary year is not over yet: This year marked the 800th anniversary of the granting of municipal rights in Wels. The city of Wels has designed several products that will be available until the end of the year.

The sticker album “Once and Now” triggered a veritable collecting fever. Due to the large crowds, the period for picking up the stickers from numerous city facilities and various partners has been extended.

The album itself is available at all distribution points, with the exception of the Stadttheater Greif. The booklet offers a wealth of information on the history of Wels – from the Roman town through the Middle Ages to the present day. But beware: It is not enough to pick up a stack of stickers in one place.

Because certain stickers are only available at a few stations: at the Wels Info on the town square, in the Welldorado, in the Welios and at the Tiergartenbuffet. The main office of the city library and the two city museums Burg and Minoriten also have to be explored – a perfect occasion for long walks through the district capital. Whoever has collected all the stickers can finally solve the riddle hidden in the album and thus find out where the secret sticker can be picked up. If you also have this in your booklet, you can pick up a stamp and take part in a competition with numerous prizes.

But Wels can not only be explored on foot and with stickers: A special edition of the classic board game “DKT” (“The Commercial Talent”) was also released for the anniversary. Unlike in the conventional game, you cannot buy German cities there. Instead, whoever can secure well-known Welser streets and landmarks wins. A “pair of twins” game with different views of Wels is also offered – suitable for the approaching Christmas season, which many families use for game nights.

anniversary souvenirs

There are also numerous souvenirs such as a special zero-euro note showing a copper engraving of a city view by the artist Matthäus Merian from 1649. Silver commemorative medals are available for collectors. A cup and a beer mug are also available for purchase. The souvenirs are available in the Minoriten City Museum, which opens again on November 15, and in the Wels Info on the city square.
