The previously unknown had smuggled ten Turkish citizens in a car from Hungary – a police patrol noticed the car near Asten because it was going too fast. The driver ignored several stop signals and raced towards Salzburg at around 200 km/h, according to the police.
Several patrols took up the pursuit, the tow tractor finally stopped near Vorchdorf on the Autobahn, left the car and its occupants in the fast lane and jumped over the central guardrail to flee on foot into a forest. Several police patrols and a service dog searched the area, but without success. The smuggler’s car – an Opel Zafira – was completely overcrowded with eleven occupants. Investigations into the background are ongoing.
