As Sainz received a five-place penalty beforehand, the front row of the grid for the penultimate race of the season will consist of Mercedes drivers. Russell earned eight championship points for his 24-round win. World champion Max Verstappen finished fourth in the Red Bull and will start the race from third place. Magnussen was able to defend his top position for two laps after a rainy qualifying, these were the first laps in the lead for a Dane in Formula 1.

There will be a total of six sprint races in the coming season, although the venues have not yet been fixed. A total of 24 Grand Prix weekends are on the program in the record calendar for 2023.
