Nockberge: roundest temptation since there have been mountains

You can never start too early. It’s 7:30 a.m., and most of the guests are still tossing about in their down comforters. Only open-air fans are already in their ski boots and swinging up to 2200 meters with the Kornockbahn. Their goal: to be first on the virgin slope. But the beauty of it is that the second also wins; and the third – actually everyone who uses the offer of the mountain railways. It’s called “Early Morning Skiing” and includes exclusive and early use of the Kornock slope from 7.30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Afterwards, the early risers feast on a hearty breakfast in the AlmZeit hut at 1990 meters.

The slope with guaranteed snow is part of the Turracherhöhe ski area and stretches across two federal states: Carinthia and Styria. The mostly blue and red runs are an Eldorado for pleasure skiers. With a bit of luck, you might even meet piste butlers dressed in loden handing out handkerchiefs, mountain farmer ice cream or ski water. On the other hand, if you want to meet Heidi, you can drive 20 kilometers further to the mountain village of Falkertsee.

Heidi and her hotel

You can never start too early. Skiing in the “Heidi Alm Skipark” is specially designed for children and beginners. Two tow lifts or a magic carpet are the perfect way to get acquainted with skis – and with Heidi. 50 years ago, Gisela Köfer had the idea of creating added value for children in the dreamy mountain world. “We were founding members of the Kinderhotels and wanted to pick up a topic that fits our philosophy. So my mother-in-law decided on her favorite series,” says Julia Köfer.

Heidi and Peter the goat greet you on every corner – for children, entry into a tranquil, idyllic world, far away from riots and sensory overload. For adults, an emotional reminder of childhood.

A Mühlviertler in the Sternenberg

You can never start too early. After graduating from high school, Thomas Seitlinger invested his first saver in a garçonnière. In 1995, trading in vintage cars and American vehicles was set up in Unterweitersdorf – and little by little further real estate projects such as Finkenstein Castle were added. “The world of mobile and real estate has been with me my whole life,” says Seitlinger. His heart for Carinthia led him to the Hochrindl. “My children learned to ski there. The high plateau is unique. A natural jewel, a tranquil place where families can have a good time,” says the entrepreneur.

However, the number of beds has fallen in recent years. A circumstance that Seitlinger would like to change and therefore invest in a hotel project in the region. Negotiations have been going on for several years. “It should remain tranquil. We want to promote gentle tourism and vitality tourism and combine economic efficiency with environmental components,” says Seitlinger. The potential of the Hochrindl is enormous for him. “The hotspots of the future will be these small destinations where you can relax.” The Sternenberg Gasthof is already culinary exciting, offering fine cuisine under the patronage of Hubert Wallner (Chef of the Year 2020) and inviting guests to enjoy it. You can never start too early.
