Pirc Musar received 53.9 percent of the votes in Sunday’s election, the state election commission said after counting 90 percent of the votes. Her runoff opponent, the conservative ex-foreign minister and opposition politician Anže Logar (46), reached 46.1 percent. Pirc Musar had been supported by Prime Minister Robert Golob.
While Logar did not want to admit defeat despite the large deficit, Pirc Musar was already cutting a cake at around 8.30 p.m. in her campaign headquarters. She announced that she wanted to lead a unifying policy. As the first official act, she will invite all party leaders in the country to a meeting. On December 23, Pirc Musar will succeed President Borut Pahor, who was banned from standing after two terms in office.
