Dos Santos, 61, was sentenced to 50 years and 28 days “in an initially closed regime, for consummated triple qualified homicide,” reported the criminal court of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state, where she was processed since last Monday.
The former parliamentarian had been in prison since August 2021, after losing her legislative privileges when she was removed from the bench obtained in 2018 by the Social Democratic Party (PSD)according to the AFP news agency.
her husband, the Pastor Anderson do Carmowas killed on June 15, 2019 with 30 bullets in the garage of his house in Niterói when he was returning from a walk with Dos Santos, who alleged that when she arrived she went up the stairs and did not see him alive again.
Dos Santos was also found guilty of attempting to kill her husband with poison on at least six occasions, as well as forgery of documents and armed conspiracy.
“She was responsible for planning the homicide, in addition to having convinced the direct perpetrator and other defendants to participate in the crime by simulating a robbery, and having financed the purchase of the weapon”sustained the accusation.
Simone dos Santos Rodrigues, biological daughter of the former deputy, was also sentenced today to 31 years in prison, while four adopted sons and a granddaughter were acquitted.
Likewise, another biological son of Dos Santos had already been convicted of the crime a year ago, accused of being the author of the shots, and an “affective son”, for having been the one who acquired the weapon.
According to the indictment, the murder was arranged because “the victim maintained rigorous control of the family finances.”
