Case Leonie: Excitement about 1,500 euros “Zundgeld”

Case Leonie: Excitement about 1,500 euros “Zundgeld”

There were more testimonies on the plan, including a young woman who is said to have been in the suspect’s apartment on the night of the crime.

Their presence was mentioned by a witness who assisted police in the arrest of two suspects. The 22-year-old, who is the ex-girlfriend of the second accused, stated that she was not in the apartment on the night of her death. The police also followed the tip, but could not secure any traces of the young woman. “I don’t want to have anything to do with any of this,” she told the jury (Presiding: Anna Marchart).

Approached “like in a whorehouse”

Shortly before the night of the crime, the 22-year-old only saw the first accused briefly, but then had no more contact with the men. But it was in the apartment beforehand “like in a whorehouse,” she said in her statement to the police. When asked by a defense attorney what she meant by that, she said, “Yes, the people who were coming and going. They were dirty, smelly, neglected children.” She suspected that it was about drug trafficking.

The fingerprints and DNA of another young Afghan who, according to the witness, was also in the apartment at the time of the crime, could not be found. However, the 23-year-old voluntarily returned to his homeland shortly after the 13-year-old’s death.

Four police officers and an interpreter who had been present at the interrogation of the accused were also questioned by the court as witnesses. Some of the accused claimed that their statements had been incorrectly recorded or incorrectly translated.

“As it is in the log, that’s how he stated it,” said an investigator from the State Criminal Police Office. “We are experienced enough.” The statements were also translated back at the end to avoid any errors. Everyone would have had the opportunity to do so, but everyone signed the protocol, the interpreter also said.

1,500 euros “tongue”

The statements by the police officers that the witness who had claimed that there were more people in the crime apartment received money for his help caused one to sit up and take notice. Because he contributed to the arrest of the first and third accused, he received what is known as “Zundgeld” in the amount of 1,500 euros. He had been given casual informant status for a short period of time. However, he then acted independently, continued to demand money from the police and also sold his story to the press, which made the investigation more difficult. “He thought he was the deputy and could bring us new information,” said one detective. But all of the witness’s instructions were followed up, the police officer assured.

The public prosecutor assumes that the accused drugged the girl on June 26, 2021 in an apartment in Vienna-Donaustadt with intent to abuse and then assaulted the 13-year-old. The girl did not survive the drug cocktail. The autopsy report revealed that the 13-year-old died violently as a result of drug poisoning and suffocation.

The men of Afghan descent are between 19 and 24 years old. For the elder who was an adult at the time of the crime, if convicted, there is 10 to 20 years or life at stake. The other two would face up to 20 years if convicted in accordance with the indictment.

It is unlikely that there will be judgments on the sixth day of the hearing. Another trial day is planned for December 2nd.
