Why is a constitution needed? How important are fundamental rights? How does the Constitutional Court work? All of these questions should Tuesday evening discussed and answered in the forum of the Upper Austria News in the Promenaden Galleries in Linz.
In cooperation with the Chamber of Lawyers, OÖ Nachrichten invited Christoph Grabenwarter, the President of the Austrian Constitutional Court (VfGH), to Linz. Christoph Grabenwarter has been President of the Constitutional Court since the beginning of 2020. Born on August 4, 1966 in Bruck/Mur in Styria, he completed his law studies at the age of 22 and then also studied commercial science. He taught at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz and at the Universities of Bonn and Graz. He has been a member of the Constitutional Court since 2005 and was its Vice President from 2018.
As a lawyer, Grabenwarter devoted himself primarily to the subject of human rights; a standard work on the human rights convention is already available in the sixth edition. As a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, the Constitutional Court President has also written numerous expert opinions on the controversial judicial reforms in Hungary and Poland.
