More than 400 runners are at the start for the comeback of the Christkindllauf

With a record number of around 800 participants, the Steyr Christmas Run celebrated its 15th edition three years ago. After an involuntary Corona break, the athletics highlight will start again at the start of the Advent season on Saturday, November 19th. From 4 p.m. the children do their 700 meter lap around the promenade, half an hour later the students are allowed to complete two laps, i.e. 1400 meters. Start and finish are in front of the old theater. The main run begins at 5:30 p.m. Nothing has changed on the popular route, as Fritz Steinparz, chairman of the organizing LAC Amateure Steyr, confirms: “From the old theater it goes in the direction of the Werndl monument, between the OÖN editorial office and the parish church into the Berggasse, then through Lamberg Castle and through the Castle park illuminated with torches back to the promenade.” After two laps, the runners have covered 5.2 kilometers.

Registration closes on Thursday

Despite the three-year break, more than 300 adults and 100 schoolchildren have already registered for the 16th Christkindllauf. The new LAC President Heimo Losbichler will also be at the start, who has been busy promoting the event on his Steyr University of Applied Sciences campus and has been able to inspire more than 25 students to participate. Also there are numerous companies such as BMD or the mostly attractively dressed runners from the vault youth center.

Registration closes on Thursday at midnight, late entries are possible until 4 p.m. on the day of the race in the new race office in the Castle Gallery opposite the Orangery. Here is also the start number issue.

“Of course, the award ceremony will again take place in the wonderful ambience of the Old Theater and will be accompanied by the saxophone ensemble of the Musikverein Christkindl,” says Steinparz, “and this time the greatest costumes of the runners will again be awarded.” There is a special prize for this from baker Rainer Fröhlich. He also gave the surprise that all children and schoolchildren taking part in the run received. In addition, there will be homemade gingerbread from LAC members for the runners.
