At the beginning of January, a woman (42) turned up at the police station in Vienna-Floridsdorf to file a complaint against her ex-husband, a 47-year-old Turk, because she felt threatened by him. On the way home he is said to have brutally stabbed the woman. Eleven stitches, five of them in the stomach.
A doctor who happened to be present took over the first aid. The woman lost more than a liter and a half of blood. According to Christian Reiter’s forensic medical report, she would have bled to death without emergency medical help.
Yesterday the Turk, who has been living in Austria for 20 years, had to answer in Vienna for attempted murder. He was found guilty as per the defendants, the jury verdict was unanimous. The man was sentenced to life imprisonment, the verdict is not final.
“You’re going to see a defendant today who is a paragon of a patriarch,” the prosecutor said at the beginning of her plea to the jury. How right she was. “I wanted to educate her with it (with the knife wounds, note),” said the accused. “I just wanted to teach her not to behave like that.” He just wanted to scare the victim.
When the judge complained that the woman had to undergo four surgeries and barely survived, the defendant claimed, “I want to thank the doctor who helped her.” When asked why he hadn’t called 911, he said, “I didn’t know the phone number.” Afterwards he complained: “My wife is given more respect than me.” It’s all a plot against him.
When asked by the assessor whether he accepted a woman’s right to divorce, he said clearly: “No!” The woman had married the Turk in 2003 at the request of her parents because the Austrian-born woman had had extramarital relationships and had an illegitimate child, which the man then adopted. Shortly after the wedding, according to the prosecutor, the man “showed where to go”. The woman was not allowed to wear skirts and had to wear a headscarf, so that she was no longer able to practice her profession as a dental assistant for hygienic reasons and worked in a call center. The couple had two more children, who soon became afraid of their father.
“Am a Loving Father”
“I’m a loving father,” said the accused. His ex-wife is to blame, “she destroyed the relationship between father and children”. In 2019, the 42-year-old finally filed for divorce, which the man did not accept. He only moved out of the shared apartment many months later when the woman organized emergency accommodation for him. Again and again he ambushed the family, observed them when they left the house.
