The model calculators of the Covid forecast consortium expect a further slow decline in the number of infected people in hospitals in the next two weeks. The occupancy in normal wards is likely to fall from 909 last Tuesday to an average of 743 on November 30th, with a range of 585 to 945 occupied beds. The reported new infections remain stagnant, it said on Wednesday. On Tuesday there were 4,821 new cases and eleven Covid deaths.

The wastewater signal also currently suggests that incidence rates are tending to be constant, emphasized the experts from Vienna University of Technology, MedUni Vienna and Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG). According to the monitoring of the variants by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) and the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA), the proportion of the new mutations BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 has increased continuously in recent weeks to currently 13 to 14 percent. However, this increase is not relevant for the current forecast.

In the intensive care units, the number of Covid patients is likely to fall from 75 the day before to an average of 63 on Wednesday in two weeks. However, the range of fluctuation from 45 to 88 shows that an increase is also possible. There is only a 0.5 percent probability of exceeding the ten percent utilization limit of the intensive care units throughout Austria at the end of the forecast period. In Burgenland and Vorarlberg, however, this is possible with a 30 percent probability.

According to AGES, the 4,821 new infections the day before were above the average of 3,549 cases over the past seven days. There are currently 37,952 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, 1,491 more than the day before. There were 1,009 infected people in the hospital on Wednesday morning, 25 more than the day before, but 121 fewer than a week ago. 76 sufferers are being cared for in intensive care units, plus three on Wednesday of the previous week.
