Exhaust pipe as the cause of fire

The cause of a fire in the municipality of Bad Mitterndorf in the Styrian Salzkammergut has now been clarified. A farm building caught fire there on Monday around 12:40 p.m. and was severely damaged. The flames quickly spread to the entire building. The fire brigades of Bad Mitterndorf, Zauchen, Neuhofen, Krungl, Unterkainisch and Obersdorf were on fire with ten vehicles and 71 firefighters. Nobody got hurt.

Criminalists from the Styrian State Criminal Police Office carried out the necessary surveys together with a fire expert from the State Office for Fire Prevention. The cause of the fire is said to be due to an exhaust pipe running through the outer wall. According to the experts, the heat radiated by the pipe would have ignited combustible materials in the building’s partition wall.

The damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros.
