The mountain bike talents of tomorrow are trained in Granitland

At least since the Granitmarathon in Kleinzell has been one of the best races in Austria, the place has been a stronghold for local mountain bike sports. Since the race was founded, work has been ongoing on young athletes. For the second time in a row, the club secured the overall ranking in the Upper Austrian junior cup this year. The junior bikers from Kleinzell scored almost twice as many points as the second-placed club. At a celebration in the Olympic training center on the Gugl, the awards were handed over by the Upper Austrian Cycling Association and the local cycling stars Riccardo Zoidl and Felix Großschartner.

The club has been meticulously following the youth work for years. You get the technical touches every Wednesday during training at the start/finish area of the granite marathon. “From mid-January we’ll be back in the hall to train our coordination skills. From April everyone will be back on the bike,” explains junior manager Mario Leibetseder. In 2023, the focus will be on technology. “Standing at a standstill” needs to be learned just like a bunny hop, long jumps or driving tight curves. On some Saturdays, there is also a two-hour training ride with the bigger Granit bikers – of course on the routes of the Granitland mountain bike region. www.granitbiker.at
