In the Linzer Tiergarten one is happy about newcomers. Four so-called “blobe goats” recently moved in. The mountain goats from Tyrol are a highly endangered livestock breed, which the “Blobe Goas” association and ARCHE Austria are taking care of. Since 2007, the Tyrolean Goat Breeding Association has also been setting up systematic maintenance breeding to protect the animals from extinction. The Blobe goat owes its name to its grey-bluish basic color – “Blobe” means “blue” in Tyrolean.
Will a puma come to the zoo soon?
With another planned addition, the zoo had to reschedule. In an interview with the BezirksRundSchau, Zoo President Ralf Gaffga announced a caracal enclosure. However, this had to be avoided for cost reasons. The enclosure for the “Australian desert lynx”, as the caracal is popularly known, would have needed larger investments. For example, a caracal would have needed a large indoor house and also higher temperatures. That would have presented the zoo with greater challenges in times after Corona and in the middle of the energy crisis. But the zoo is sticking to the plan to bring a big cat to Linz. The favorite is currently the puma, reveals zoo director Sabina Moser in an interview with OÖN. However, there is no timetable yet, because it is currently difficult to get corresponding offers from construction companies.
