North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile that landed in Japanese waters on Friday. It is the second major weapons test this month with which Pyongyang has shown it has cability to launch nuclear strikes on US soil and aroused a chain of international reactions.

Japan’s Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada said that it was an intercontinental ballistic missile whose range, calculated based on the flight path and depending on other factors such as the weight of the warhead, could in principle exceed 15,000 kilometersenough to land on the continental United States.

A few hours after the launch, the US Vice PresidentKamala Harris, met with the main partners of her country on the sidelines of a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in Bangkok. “We strongly condemn these actions and reiterate the call for North Korea to cease these illegal and destabilizing acts,” Harris told reporters before the start of the meeting.

This release occurs at a time of rising tensions with North Korea and the United States, who believes that the country may be preparing a seventh nuclear test. The White House said in a statement that the six leaders who participated in the meeting warned of a “firm and resolute response” if North Korea carried out a nuclear test.
