The goals are clearly defined: charge quickly and drive far. In order to create the basis for this, technicians from Porsche and Audi teamed up and developed a platform for future electric models in segments B, C and D. The Stuttgart-based company calls it the Premium Platform Electric, PPE.
The PPE is suitable for rear and all-wheel drive as well as 800-volt technology. “The 800 volts enable high continuous power and high charging power,” says Antoon Janssen, Manager Porsche Powertrain. In the new Macan, which will be launched with an electric drive in 2024, the two electric motors with permanent magnets will generate up to 450 kilowatts and 1000 Newton meters of torque. Like the e-units, the 100 kWh battery has been optimized compared to the Taycan. The charging capacity should be beyond 270 kW, and the battery should be full in less than 25 minutes when charging the SoC (5 to 80 percent). Wheels up to 22 inches in size can be fitted to the E-Macan, and the active air suspension minimizes bumps.
For the first time, rear-axle steering can be ordered with the PPE base. The rear wheels turn a maximum of five degrees. In addition, the platform allows more variants for mixed tires. The Taycan’s 2-speed reduction gear has had its day; only a single-speed gear will be used in the future. According to Porsche, this is more efficient. The curb weight of the E-Macan should be well below 2.5 tons. (Heb)
