Since yesterday, the Advent markets in Strobl and St. Gilgen can call themselves “Green Events”. (The Advent market in St. Wolfgang as the third location of the Wolfgangsee Advent will receive the certificate in the coming year.)

The Wolfgangsee Tourismus Gesellschaft (WTG) and the Advent market stall operators have made great efforts to receive the seal of approval: They rely on reusable tableware, and the decorations are also used again every year. Consistent waste separation leads to extremely small amounts of residual waste, instead of heating sponges there are fire bowls, the (local) Christmas trees are fed to local heating plants in the region as biomass, and the lighting works with LEDs and green electricity.

Incidentally, the Advent markets in Strobl and St. Gilgen can be easily reached from Upper Austria by bus line 150. The buses leave Bad Ischl train station every half hour and holders of the Upper Austrian climate ticket can use them free of charge up to St. Gilgen. (ebra)
