How will we live in the future? How do we protect natural landscapes, how do we react to climate change? Which real estate concepts that we are not even familiar with today will play a major role in the future? Immotopia 2023, an architecture competition organized by OÖ Nachrichten and Compact Immobilien with their partners Energie AG, Hypo Oberösterreich and Strasser Steine, is all about questions like these. After the success at the premiere in 2019/20, the prize is being awarded for the second time this year.
Ideas for innovative living can be submitted to www.immotopia.at until January 15, 2023. Concepts, drawings, sketches, photos, files, visualizations and audio contributions can be uploaded.
All Upper Austrian schoolchildren from the age of 14, apprentices and students at an Upper Austrian university are eligible to participate. Entries can be submitted individually, as a group or as a whole class.
This year the award has three different categories:
- New living concepts: This section deals with the questions of how living in the smallest of spaces can work without loss of comfort, what function the furnishing of apartments should have and how cities can become fertile gardens again.
- Digital support: Ideas are being sought here on how a digitized living environment should look like in which people want to live in the future. The function of smart furniture and the saving of energy and raw materials through efficient devices also play a role.
- Sustainable living 2050: Participants in the third category venture a look into the distant future. How will families deal with the kitchen, living room and home office in around 30 years? How can property developers build in an environmentally friendly way? What can modern living contribute to a healthy life on a healthy planet? These questions are the focus.
The prizes for the winners are 2000 euros each. A jury made up of representatives from the sponsors and from areas such as art, culture, architecture and handicrafts selects the best projects. Two important evaluation criteria are originality and innovative strength.
