Shiffrin fixed Levi slalom double – ÖSV weak again

With a weak ÖSV team performance, Katharina Liensberger was again the best in eighth (+1.85).

In addition to Liensberger, only Katharina Truppe (21st) made it into the second round. Chiara Mair and Marie-Therese Sporer were eliminated, Katharina Huber (33rd), Magdalena Egger (40th), Franziska Gritsch (42nd) and Nina Astner (48th) missed the final of the top 30.

Two weeks of training on the Levi Black slope, which was not particularly popular with red-white-red, bore no fruit. Instead, the best ÖSV runners were again united by a massive deficit, which accumulated, especially on flat terrain. “We’re only human too. None of us drives too slowly,” said Truppe. The Carinthian had already doubted her form in advance – and was confirmed in it. “Skiing is not fun at the moment.”

After finishing eleventh and eighth on ORF, Liensberger said: “It was definitely not an easy start to the new season.” Thomas Trinker, the new women’s racing manager in the ÖSV, was sobered: “We expected a lot more. I would even say that what happened to us is unacceptable.”

Let’s continue in the USA

Meanwhile, Shiffrin hoarded the first big points of the season in the far north. As the overall World Cup leader, she is moving from Finland to the USA. Shiffrin’s home races in Killington form the women’s World Cup continuation next weekend. A giant slalom and slalom, in which Shiffrin could just celebrate her 50th slalom success, are on the program in Vermont.

The exceptional talent continues to set records. With her sixth trick in the Finnish Winter Wonderland, she surpassed her permanent rival Vlhova (5), who had traveled to Lapland as the record winner. Shiffrin had already left another scent of consistency on Saturday: with Vreni Schneider and Renate Götschl, she now forms an elite trio, each of whom has managed to celebrate at least one World Cup victory in eleven consecutive seasons.

After number 76, the still only 27-year-old is six wins short of compatriot Lindsey Vonn in the all-time list of the best. In the men’s race, Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark is ahead with 86 wins.
