Barking and yelping for days, piles of feces, damage in the apartment and no trace of the dog owner: because a dog in a block of flats in Linz’s Neue Heimat was apparently neglected, a neighbor called the police today. She was not alone with the allegations, because when the officers arrived, they were approached by more than a dozen other neighbors and asked to “save” the dog.
Thirst and lack of exercise
And indeed, the police found the animal in poor condition. From the outside they could see that he was thirsty. Apparently he also urinated in the apartment, which the officials looked deserted. Damage to the wall and the balcony door indicated a lack of outlet. There was an empty bowl in the kitchen, two more with wet to moldy food in the garden. All of this was visible from the outside. The official vet ordered the removal of the dog. The resident could not be reached by phone.

When the 32-year-old dog owner arrived, she showed no understanding for the complaints. Upon entering the apartment, the picture intensified. There were several piles of feces on the floor and the dog had urinated in several places. The woman said she left the dog in the home “just for a day.” She had moved and didn’t want the dog to destroy the new furniture. But nothing helped, the dog was brought to the animal shelter in Linz with the support of the professional fire brigade.
