Despite wintry road conditions, the 38-year-old Romanian drove on Sunday at around 8.45 a.m. with summer tires on the west autobahn in the direction of Salzburg. In the municipal area of Asten, he skidded, crashed into the central guard rail and came to a standstill in the third lane across the road. He did not secure the scene of the accident and did not wait for the police to arrive – the 38-year-old simply ran away.
The police officers were finally able to locate the man at his home address and found a drug impairment. He was brought before the police doctor and found to be unfit to drive. Due to the recovery of the badly damaged car, there were traffic delays in the area of the accident site between 8:35 a.m. and 9:27 a.m.
