“Many cultural organizers already had 50 percent occupancy, the new ‘sold out’,” says Schubertiade chairman and tenor Michael Nowak. But he’s now looking ahead and confident that audiences will return. The Schubertiade 2022/23 will kick off with the “Pueri Concinite” Christmas concert on Monday, December 12 at 7.30 p.m. in the Franziskuskirche. Nowak and his wife, the soprano Judith Graf, appear as soloists. Also taking part are the NowaCanto choir, the Vienna ensemble “Soundbar”, the horn quartet of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, pianist Klaus Oberleitner and actor Franz Strasser.
On February 10th there will be a song recital with Judith Graf (from Schubert, Gershwin to Strauss) in the music school in Wels and on March 10th there will be a concert with the wind quintet “Piano Forte” in the parish hall of the Church of the Holy Family in Vogelweide.
The Nowak family and the association are already in the middle of planning for the anniversary year 2024, in which the 20th anniversary of the Schubertiade will be celebrated.
Cultural officer Christa Raggl-Mühlberger emphasized that music, art and culture meet humanity at the Schubertiade, since the focus is also on non-profit-making. This year, 1,500 euros went to the MPS association, Society for MukoPolySaccharidoses, a rare metabolic disease. Together with the Lions Club Wels, a Ukrainian student who is studying singing at the Bruckner University in Linz is also being supported.
