Master baker Jakob Pumberger (35) from Niederkappel has successfully completed his training as a bread sommelier. He is one of 15 in all of Austria. The training was offered for the first time in Austria. With this further training, the bread sommeliers are pursuing the goal of bringing bread and, above all, the bakery trade to the fore and passing on knowledge about bread to customers. Knowledge from the areas of bread culture, bread market, sensors, types of bread from all over the world, food pairing – which bread goes with which wine, cheese, beer -, qualitative evaluation of bread and much more is imparted. After graduating from the commercial academy, Jakob Pumberger passed the master craftsman’s examination. In addition to the main business in Niederkappel, the Pumberger bakery also operates a branch in the neighboring municipality of Lembach. “I honestly have to admit that I underestimated the scope of the training at the beginning. Now, after successfully completing the exams, I am very proud to be one of the first bread ambassadors in Austria,” says the sommelier. “I would like to thank my family in particular, who gave me their full support during this apprenticeship. Great praise and thanks also go to my employees, who stand behind our artisanal bakery with full commitment. That makes me happy, I’m very proud of that,” says the father of four and fire brigade commander.
