Original Marlen Haushofers at the library anniversary

On November 30, 1962, the new Steyr Central Library was opened in the former Hotel Nagl on Bahnhofstrasse. At that time, 7,000 books were available to readers. Today, 60 years later, the municipal library offers more than 32,000 media, from books to games, CDs and DVDs to magazines. Since the modernization in 2002, the city library has been named after the internationally renowned Steyr writer Marlen Haushofer.

Exactly 60 years to the day after the official opening of what was then the central library, there will be an open day in the library on Wednesday, November 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a small exhibition with, among other things, unpublished writings by Marlen Haushofer and signed books in the first edition, as well as a picture book cinema for children.

Guided tours of the library are available if you are interested. Pre-registration at 07252/48423 or buecherei@steyr.gv.at.
