Ironically, in the last game before the Oberbank Steelvolleys Linz-Steg volleyball team received Walfer from Luxembourg (7 p.m.) in the European Cup today, they suffered their first league defeat with a 3-1 loss in Graz at the weekend. “I would interpret that more as a warning shot at the right time,” said manager Andreas Andretsch, according to which the team was sometimes too sure of victory after clearly winning the first set (25:14).
Andretsch doesn’t want to know anything about a clear favorite role against Walfer, who lost both European Cup appearances against Sokol/Post last year: “They had a similar upheaval as we did, so this team doesn’t have much to do with the one from the previous season.” Steg trainer Facundo Morando, who, like in Graz, can rely on Sophie Maass who is fit again, still sees the advantages in the Austrian league leaders: “The fact that we have better opponents in the league and have a higher training workload speaks for us.” The second leg follows a week later. If the promotion succeeds, Thessaloniki would wait in the 1/16 final of the Challenge Cup.
