Bolsonarism asks to annul the majority of the votes to relight the street

The electronic ballot boxes that Bolsonaro’s party seeks to challenge are the UE2009, UE2010, UE2011, UE2013 and UE2015 models, reported CNN Brazil.

Only the ballot boxes of the UE2020 model would be perfectly auditable, according to the party’s note.

In the second round, according to the same space, these ballot boxes represented 40.82% of those used.

In this universe, according to the PL’s calculation, President Bolsonaro would have won. The indictment alleges that there were “irreparable flaws” in these models.

Signed by the lawyer Marcelo Luiz Ávila de Bessa, the presentation cites the technical audit report carried out by the Legal Voting Institute (IVL), contracted by the PL, which would have found “conclusive evidence of malfunctioning of the electronic voting machines.”

The alleged problems would have been registered.

For his part, the president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes, gave the party 24 hours to present the complete report, that is, that it includes data from the first and second electoral rounds.

Thus, under penalty of dismissal of the claim, the plaintiff must modify the claim so that the request covers both electoral rounds and not only the ballot, within 24 (twenty-four) hours. Publish it urgently ”, reads the text issued by the court.

In a video that circulated on social networks last weekend, Costa Neto said that all the ballot boxes prior to 2020 have the same patrimonial number, which would prevent the control and inspection of the equipment and would request the annulment of the elections.

“The valid and auditable votes of the second round of the 2022 elections attest to a different result than the one announced by this TSE on 10/30/22, granting a preferential position of 51.05% of the population to President Jair Bolsonaro” , says the action of the PL.

In the video, Costa Neto denied that he was going to request a new election or “upset the life of the country” but assured that they were going to request a review and present a proposal to the highest electoral court.

Days before the first round of the 2022 elections, the party had already released an IVL opinion that warned of a possible “internal or external invasion” of the polls.

Although the electronic voting machine was launched in 1996, the technology has been updated ever since.

In this year’s elections, there were more than 577,000 voting machines in use.

The Electoral Justice uses the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2020 models. The oldest, from 2009, represent 13% of the total equipment in use.

All versions use the same programs, developed by the TSE’s Information Technology Secretariat and improved.

Electronic ballot boxes have been used in Brazil without problems since their launch, but Bolsonaro questioned them on several occasions and defended the application of printed voting; and he even threatened last year with not holding this year’s elections if the National Congress did not approve the change in the system.

In 2021, the president was investigated by the Federal Supreme Court for spreading false news to attack the current voting system with electronic ballot boxes and thus trying to denounce fraud in the 2022 elections in case of defeat.

The October elections were attended by 120 international observers in the first round, in addition to some 300 independent national observers.

Transparency

The head of the electoral observation mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), former Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, stated on that occasion that the general elections were “absolutely” normal.

The elections “are clean, safe and transparent,” said de Moraes, in an act with international observers the week before the election.
