City distributes up to 1.3 million euros from federal funding to clubs

The Linz clubs could get up to 1.3 million euros to be able to cope with the increased costs. “There are associations in Linz that urgently need this help because they are severely affected by energy prices and the higher material and personnel costs due to inflation,” says Deputy Mayor Tina Blöchl (SP). However, it is not yet clear whether you can really distribute the full amount. That depends on the funding conditions on the part of the federal government, which are not yet known. In any case, the city wants to develop a model for eligible clubs.

ÖVP for increasing basic funding

The ÖVP and the Greens had previously called for support for the clubs in the face of inflation. The ÖVP also calls for an increase in basic funding by ten percent. “In the special city senate, we agreed that we would only decide in the first quarter of next year whether and by how much funding for clubs would be increased. But thanks to the unexpected injection of money from the federal government, we could bring that forward,” say Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart and City Councilor for Culture Doris Lang-Mayerhofer. In addition to the difficult times caused by Corona and inflation, the Greens also refer to the increased performance requirements for many clubs.
