One person was killed in a double attack on two bus stops in the Jerusalem area on Wednesday. At least 18 other people were injured, including several seriously, according to the Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service. The police spoke of “suspicion of a combined attack”. Outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid called an emergency meeting with police and military leaders.
The first explosion occurred at a bus stop on the outskirts of the city, injuring eleven people. Shortly after, there were reports of another explosion at a bus stop in Ramot, north of the city. At least three people were injured, police said. And one person succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, said the Shaare Sedek Medical Center. According to media reports, the dead man is a minor.
Police spokesman Eli Levi said: “There hasn’t been such a coordinated attack in Jerusalem for years.” This year, 26 people have already died in attacks in Israel, East Jerusalem and the West Bank, including several soldiers and security forces.
