Leather company Barrow Hepburn & Gale have used special techniques to restore and customize the suitcase – known as the “Red Box” – British news agency PA reported on Friday.
It was also provided with Charles’ new official monogram. British monarchs receive important papers in the red suitcases every day – including legal papers to be signed, but also letters and announcements. At the same time, several of these suitcases are in circulation.
The long history of the traditional example, which is to be sent to King Charles shortly, can be seen: the words “King George V” are engraved on the lock – a sign that Queen Elizabeth II’s grandfather used the suitcase. He was British Head of State from 1910 to 1936.
