Ferihumerstraße: Structural closure is to come into force again this week

As is well known, the first pilot attempt at a structural barrier on Ferihumerstraße failed at the end of September. Motorists who had disregarded the barrier and the stop signs, as well as safety concerns on the part of Linz Linien and the police brought it down. Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) finally declared implementation a top priority, and a test model was developed in coordination with Linz Linien.

As reported, the new concept provides for additional hazard warning lights on the tram tracks in addition to street signs, information signs and bollards. The implementation of the new concept on site can be expected in the coming days, and the six-month test run is scheduled to begin on December 1st.

The improved safeguarding of the ban on driving through, which is already in force, will be regularly evaluated during the test phase, Luger informed today in a press release. In the course of this observation phase, a decision should be made as to whether the measures will prove successful or whether they need to be optimized by additional measures on the part of the city of Linz. “Only then will the decision be made on the final traffic solution in Ferihumerstraße,” it concludes.
