After two cross-country skiing falls, Mario Seidl catapulted himself from 47th to eighth place with a splendid jump on Sunday. Like on Saturday, the victory in Ruka went to the defending World Cup champion Jarl Magnus Riiber. The Norwegian now has 51 wins.
After a wafer-thin lead from cross-country skiing on the large hill, Riiber finally prevailed clearly ahead of Frenchman Matteo Baud with 145 meters. Ryota Yamamoto from Japan secured third place.
The cross-country skiing over 10 km only resulted in minimal gaps of less than four points within the top 30. Seidl, on the other hand, missed more than a minute as fourth from last and therefore started the jumping more than 19 points behind Riiber. His flight to the maximum distance of 147 meters brought the man from Salzburg far ahead, but he and Lamparter did not get the first ÖSV podium of the World Cup winter.
“That was a good step forward, the last two days were a bit of a fight on the hill,” said Lamparter, who was fourth in the cross-country ski run. He wants to improve step by step, said the overall World Cup runner-up from the previous season, who was having problems in preparation.
Seidl spoke of a conciliatory conclusion: “It was really fun to show such a bomb again, but I have to keep training in the running area.” Stefan Rettenegger, who surprisingly came fifth on Saturday, came eleventh this time directly ahead of Franz-Josef Rehrl.
“We’re doing quite well, but there’s still a bit missing for the very front. We have a lot to do, we’ll work on that,” said ÖSV head coach Christoph Eugen. Next weekend you will be in Lillehammer, where the women will also start the World Cup season.
