The report was published by The Guardian newspaper at a time of controversy in the UK over the long waiting lists in hospitals and the lack of staff.
According to the study, because of Brexit, in the British health system there are 4,000 fewer professionals from other countries of the EU.
study group Nuffield Trust examined the situation of four specialties (anesthesia, pediatrics, cardiothoracic surgery Y psychiatry) in which professionals from other European countries were especially numerous.
In these four specialties, which suffer from lack of personnel, “the progression of the number of troops coming from the EU (…) slowed down,” the report indicates.
According to the study, if the same trend as before Brexit had been maintained, there would have been 41,000 doctors from the EU and the other countries of the European Free Trade Association (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein) in 2021, that is, 4,000 more than the current figures.
“The campaign and the result of the referendum (from 2016 and which was applied from 2020) is the obvious reason for this change in trend,” according to the Nuffield Trust.
It indicates as causes the initial uncertainty due to the new rules on the movement of people, the tightening of the rules for the attribution of visas and the “worsening of working conditions”.

tax increase
Along with the problems in the health system, Brits will face steep tax hikes and spending cuts to deal with a fiscal red of 54,000 million pounds (63,000 million dollars), according to a package of measures announced in recent days by the government of the prime minister Rishi Sunak.
As reported by the British government, the objective is to stabilize the economy of the United Kingdom and reduce the inflation in a context of recession. The plan threatens to aggravate the fall in production.
Inflation, as announced yesterday, reached a 41-year high last month at 11.1%, with food rising at an annual rate of 16.5%, intensifying the crisis in the UK over rising cost of life, which is attributed to the consequences of the country’s departure from the European Union (EU), or Brexit, and the war with Ukraine and the coronavirus pandemic.
