Prize for speed in solving “Magic Cubes”

The two graduates of the HTL Braunau, Maximilian Gerner and Marcel Leitner, won an audience award at the TÜV Austria Science Prize. They devote themselves to “Magic Cubes”. Gerner and Leitner have developed a machine that solves every magic cube within 30 seconds. Around 15 to 20 seconds are needed for the scan and analysis, around twelve seconds for the solution itself. Different disciplines such as computer science, electrical engineering, mechanics, CHD and optics interlock. The housing was created using a 3D printer.

A color sensor detects the state of the cube with the help of motors, a microcontroller calculates the necessary solution steps and controls the motors. The two HTL graduates continue to tinker and want to optimize the device in order to achieve an even higher solution speed.
