Since the World Cup was awarded, many migrant workers have died in Qatar on construction projects for the World Cup. They have had to work in extreme heat and have lived in squalid dwellings far from the glittering skyscrapers of Doha. The state of Qatar treated them like second-class citizens – without rights and sometimes even without pay. In episode 3 of “Licht und Schatten”, the World Cup podcast of Oberösterreichische Nachrichten, you can find out why the workers were shamelessly exploited and whether there is any improvement in sight.
