Dog puppies killed: conditional detention for young man

The young Ukrainian was sitting on the animal as a dog sitter when, after feeding it, he punched the dog for no apparent reason. “I was very, very, very, very angry,” he said. He was sentenced to three months imprisonment.

When asked by judge Christoph Kraushofer what made him so angry on July 26, 2020, the 23-year-old said: “Unfortunately, I can’t explain that.” He kicked the animal and then threw it against a chair. “I’m totally guilty of that,” he said. The French bulldog did not survive the attack. The young man tried to put a straw in the animal’s mouth to resuscitate it. His best friend was on vacation at the time.

“He provoked me”

Also accused of the offense of making a dangerous threat, because in September of this year he let his mother’s employer know by telephone that he was going to stab him and his family. The defendant’s mother worked for the Russian as a babysitter. “You have to understand, he provoked me,” said the 23-year-old. The man said “that all Ukrainian fascists should die,” the accused reported.

The 43-year-old Russian then said in court that he wasn’t really afraid of the young man he had known for a long time. “I don’t think he’s evil.” It was the first time he saw him like this. Rather, he believes that the situation with the war in Ukraine was too much for him. “I don’t want the young man to go to jail because of my complaint.”

The verdict for animal cruelty and dangerous threat is not yet final. The prosecutor’s office gave no explanation. However, the 23-year-old has to pay the dog owner 1,000 euros in damages.
