“Catch me if you can”: Lying and cheating as a musical

All of this without ever having completed the relevant training. Abagnale was a gifted but sympathetic criminal. When, years later, his handiwork can be stopped, he is sent to prison before being appointed as a fraud consultant at the FBI.

Steven Spielberg filmed this incredible story starring Leonardo DiCaprio in 2002, and the musical material premiered on Broadway in 2011.

Gernot Romic in the leading role

On Saturday, “Catch me if you can” celebrates its premiere at the Linz Music Theater – with the versatile Gernot Romic in the leading role. The director is the German Ulrich Wiggers, who finds the material “ideal for a musical” and for whom the “credibility of the characters” is important in his work. The costumes, 250 in number, were designed by Franz Blumauer. “It’s pretty hectic backstage, on average each of the 18 actors has to change their clothes twelve times,” says the Viennese. Both the costumes and the stage (Leif-Erik Heine) are based on the 1960s.

Jonathan Huor is the choreographer and Juheon Han is the musical director. The musical director of studies at the music theater conducts 34 musicians from the Bruckner Orchestra, which this time makes itself heard in the jazz big band sound.

“Catch me if you can”: Musical, premiere on December 3rd, 7.30 p.m., Musiktheater Linz. Tickets: landestheater-linz.at
