The fraudulent emails with the subject “Last warning! You will receive a tax refund” or “Reminder: Your tax refund is ready!” announce that the recipient will receive a tax refund of 578.99 euros and will provide their personal data in return. The BMF constantly warns of this scam.
Further information on the fraudsters’ scams, the characteristics of fraud attempts and necessary security measures are listed in the folder “Beware of fraud! Don’t give Internet scammers a chance”. The folder is available for download on the BMF website and can be obtained from all tax offices.
The BMF has already initiated measures against this attempted fraud. The experts recommend the following procedure:
- Under no circumstances should you follow the instructions contained in the e-mail!
- Do not click on any links or files contained therein!
- Under no circumstances give out personal data such as passwords, credit card data or account information!
- The BMF recommends deleting such e-mails immediately!
