A previously unknown perpetrator wanted to smash the display window with a sledgehammer. “But the bullet-proof glass that I bought after the last burglary eight years ago held up,” says Emil Krabath in an interview with the Upper Austria News. The shop is of course also secured with an alarm system that was triggered. The jeweler was roused from bed by the police just after 1am.
Although the police officers were on site within a few minutes of the alarm being raised, there was no trace of the perpetrator, who fled in the direction of Eisenhowerstrasse and threw away his mask. A neighbor who saw the perpetrator attempting to break in also sounded the alarm.
Krabath estimates the damage at around 3,000 to 4,000 euros, which is covered by insurance. During his long career, his shop has been broken into more than ten times. Krabath has also been the victim of a robbery.
