“My grandparents founded the fashion business more than 100 years ago,” says Kajetan Zocher (73), who runs the shop in Welser Pfarrgasse together with his wife Christa. The enthusiastic Wels native and athlete inherited the business and his first name from his father, “but I named my son Florian,” says Zocher with a smile.
He has actually been retired for several years, but on January 31 the time has actually come and the fashion business is closing. “I took over the business in 1980 and have always enjoyed doing it,” says Zocher. He had to have an operation on both knees and therefore now was the right time.
Former surfer at Lake Traunsee
Zocher experienced the development of Wels into a shopping town and still gives the town good marks today. “There’s a lot of good business, the overall package fits,” says Zocher. He has always been a passionate businessman and even in the age of the internet, he believes there will still be businesses like his. “You have to be able to attack clothes.” His fashion business has always benefited from 80 percent of regular customers who came from all over Upper Austria and even from Vienna.
His second passion besides fashion is sport: whether as a surfer on the Traunsee, as he used to be, as a gymnast or now as a golfer. Zocher’s son works in the pharmaceutical industry, daughter Sabine is a tax consultant.
