Studies of toys by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) show that products that are harmful to health keep coming onto the market. Particular caution is required when buying cheap toys at fairs, fairs and fairs. In the past, there would often have been high complaint rates here.
The following tips from AGES help to buy safe toys:
Only buy toys with the CE mark, always observe warnings, instructions for use and age recommendations.
Remove all packaging material before the child gets the toy. Also be careful with button cell batteries from easily accessible battery compartments, they can be swallowed.
For toys for children under the age of three, test that they do not contain any small, detachable parts – for example, pull on the button eyes of a stuffed animal. Hold toy cellphones to your ear for a moment to find out if sounds and melodies are uncomfortably loud.
Toy strings that are too long are a risk of strangulation.
There is detailed information in the brochure “Good Toys! Guide to choosing a toy”, which is available from AGES.
