In November of the previous year, he severely abused his 29-year-old fiancee with a squared timber and then laid her lifeless body in front of the Villach district authority. The man had confessed to judge Oliver Kriz and the jury, but initially denied the intention to kill. The judgment is not final.
Quarrels and violence as standard
The murder of the young woman was one of 29 femicides in Austria last year. The Romanian lived with her then 28-year-old fiancé in an apartment in the Villach-Land district. In order to earn a living together, the woman worked as a sex worker in a well-known club in the district. He hired himself out as her pimp and also did business with car imports. In the relationship between the two, violent arguments and violence were standard before the crime came on November 15, 2021.
It was about allegations of cocaine use and jealousy. When the woman wanted to leave the apartment, the accused hit his fiancé first with a broom handle and later with a slatted frame. Then he got a massive, about a meter long squared timber and let his anger run wild. When the petite woman lost consciousness, he carried her to his car after unsuccessful attempts to revive her and went back into the apartment to get the squared timber.
Body laid before district authority
With the motionless woman in the car, the man drove to the Villach-Land district authority, where the woman had picked up her health card every week. He put her lifeless body on the ground in front of the building and called for help. While the people who arrived, including doctors, fought in vain for the young woman’s life, the perpetrator drove a few streets away in his car to dispose of the murder weapon in a bush. He then returned, however, and allowed himself to be arrested without resistance by the police officers who had arrived in the meantime. Parts of the course of events and the location of the murder weapon could be reconstructed using the dashcam in the perpetrator’s car.
At the hearing, the accused initially denied the intention to kill with the squared timber and testified that he only hit his fiancée with the broomstick and the slat without wanting to kill her with it. The victim’s massive injuries paint a different picture. The woman’s body showed numerous bruises and severe internal blood loss from multiple beatings with tremendous force. Forensic medical expert Isabella Klasinc was able to prove that the Romanian woman was injured with all three murder weapons and that she died as a result.
15,000 euros in compensation for the victim’s brother
Finally, the perpetrator made a confession: “I confess, I didn’t think I was going to kill her with it.” The judge wanted to know whether he regretted his actions. “Very, I would do anything to fix it,” the defendant replied through tears. The psychiatric expert Walter Wagner confirmed that the accused had a mental disorder. Nevertheless, he is able to recognize the consequences of his actions and is aware that these are punishable. The Romanian was eventually sentenced to 19 years in prison. His admission of guilt had a mitigating effect. The brutal execution of the act made it even more difficult. The victim’s brother was awarded 15,000 euros in damages.
The defendant’s defense attorney filed an appeal against the sentence, but prosecutor Nicole Sembach made no statement.
