A8 closed after accident with dangerous goods truck

The emergency services were alerted shortly before 6 p.m.: On the A8 it was in the direction of Suben between Pichl-Bad Schallerbach and Meggenhofen-Gallspach got into a serious accident. According to initial information, a tanker truck left the roadway. The injured driver had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

For the recovery of the heavy vehicle loaded with dangerous goods, the Innkreisautobahn was completely closed at the accident site at kilometer 30 in the direction of Suben. According to Asfinag, around 7 p.m. the length of the backlog was around five kilometers. The ÖAMTC recommended drivers to drive around the barrier. Video recordings show the scene of the accident:

The vehicles that were parked in front of the closed accident site were diverted via a makeshift driveway. During the pumping work, the oncoming lane towards Wels should also be closed, it said on Wednesday evening. The work is likely to continue until after midnight, according to the estimate around 9 p.m.

In addition to the Geisensheim, Krenglbach and Pichl fire brigades, the dangerous substances train of the Wels fire brigade is also on duty. The tank truck was loaded with a flammable, corrosive and toxic liquid, according to the emergency services.

Accident also in the direction of Wels

On top of that. While work on the Suben lane was in full swing, an accident also occurred in the opposite direction to Wels. The driver of a car – distracted by the flashing blue lights – may have hit a truck. The driver was able to exit his heavily damaged vehicle apparently unharmed.

The Meggenhofen fire brigade was alerted to the clean-up work. The accident caused further obstructions on the A8: the Wels direction lane also had to be closed.
