The moor lake, the silence, the nature: Holzöster is a beautiful patch of earth. And that’s exactly where there is a job vacancy: the municipality, which owns the lakeside restaurant, is looking for new tenants. There are several applicants, a decision should be made soon.
What used to be a boat hut with a snack bar is now a small, fine lakeside restaurant with an inviting terrace over the water. The view from there is an eye-catcher in every season and that is exactly the reason why the community and the previous tenant are now going their separate ways. “We want the place to be open all year round again, not just in the summer. It’s ideal for smaller celebrations like Christmas and birthday parties.
In addition, the barrier-free circular path around the Holzöstersee leads directly past the restaurant. As soon as the sun shines a bit, walkers come to us, also from Braunau and Burghausen. And they like to go for coffee and cake afterwards,” says VP Mayor Josef Lasser.
Fixed opening hours are also part of the requirement profile for the new tenant. The bathing facility once belonged to the Franking Tourist Association. Since the merger with the cross-border tourism association “s’Entdeckerviertel” it has been owned by the municipality of Franking. “As everywhere else, it’s not that easy, everyone knows that something like this is associated with high costs, but for us as a small tourist community it’s just a dream location.” And it has to be preserved.
The Holzöstersee belongs to the Oberinnviertler Seenplatte, a group of several small lakes. The moor lake itself, which is less than five meters deep, has belonged to the province of Upper Austria for many years. A shore line (with pedal boat rental and lakeside bar) belongs to the community, the south-eastern area is looked after by the state as a public bathing and recreation area.
