Goggia won Lake Louise downhill – Hütter third

Goggia won Lake Louise downhill – Hütter third

While the ski men in Beaver Creek were once again doomed to do nothing due to wind and heavy snowfall and the downhill had to be cancelled, the women in Lake Louise let it rip. The Italian Sofia Goggia set the tone in her “living room” again, after the three victories in the previous year she was unbeatable in the downhill on Friday – already the fourth coup in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in a row. Behind the second-placed Swiss Corinne Suter, an Austrian, Cornelia Hütter, also had a place on the podium.

In the end it was a few hundredths that decided. Sutter was only four behind Goggia, Hütter was a full six behind her fourth World Cup triumph. “I’m more than happy with the result. After the many injuries, such successes are not a matter of course,” said the Styrian. Nina Ortlieb, who had to cope with several serious knee injuries in her career and finished sixth (+0.95), thought the same thing. “It almost feels a little like a win,” said the Vorarlberg native after her comeback. It went even better for Mirjam Puchner, who finished fourth (+0.35).

Anxious moments about Mühlviertlerin

There were anxious moments about Elisabeth Reisinger from the Mühlviertel. On the way to a possible top 15 placement, the 26-year-old fell in the lower part of the track. The 26-year-old was able to cross the finish line on her own a little later. Even before that, Ramona Siebenhofer had to endure a moment of shock at 130 km/h when a ski suddenly threatened to become detached. However, the Styrian saved the situation and stayed on her feet – 28th place.

It is quite possible that Goggia will be difficult to bend again on Saturday in the second descent (8.30 p.m.) and on Sunday in the Super-G (7 p.m.). “I’m not happy with my ride, there could have been a lot more,” said the Italian. It is to be wished for the competition that this was not meant too seriously.

Mayer: “It’s very annoying”

The men are hoping for races on the “Birds of Prey” slope on Saturday and Sunday (6:15 p.m. each day). “We certainly won’t get all the races back, that’s annoying with a view to the overall World Cup,” Matthias Mayer quarreled with the cancellations so far.
