Before the three-day budget session of the state parliament next week, Upper Austria’s SP boss Michael Lindner called for the housing budget for 2023 to be increased by ten percent, i.e. by 31.3 million euros. A five-point program for affordable housing is to be implemented: securing the construction of 2,000 apartments in the non-profit sector, reversing the reduction in renovations by five million euros, adjusting the upper rent limit for housing assistance (currently seven euros per square meters), a special budget for municipalities about improving the living environment and granting loans to young people who would otherwise not be able to afford a loan.
It is a “well-known approach of social democracy to always call for more money,” reacted deputy governor and housing consultant Manfred Haimbuchner (FP). Compared to the federal states, Upper Austria has a medium budget, but achieves the best results. We are leaders in new construction and renovation.
