The Renewable Heat Act will probably not come in January after all

According to a report in the “Kleine Zeitung”, nothing will come of it for the time being, as the necessary two-thirds majority is still missing. An entry into force before the middle of next year is therefore no longer realistic.

According to the “Kleine Zeitung” that is Law was removed from the agenda of this year’s economic committee next Wednesday due to the lack of a two-thirds majority, the newspaper refers to negotiating circles. According to the report, the delay is only partly due to the objections of the SPÖ mandataries, which are necessary for the two-thirds majority. In fact, the Chamber of Commerce, which is blocking the regulations, is also braking in the background. “Every comma that is to be changed in the current negotiations is therefore blocked by the ÖVP, which ultimately delays everything,” an insider is quoted as saying in the report.

The two energy spokesmen for the coalition parties, Lukas Hammer (Greens) and Tanja Graf (ÖVP), confirmed that there is still no constitutional majority. At the same time, they emphasized in a statement to the APA that the negotiations with the SPÖ have not yet been completed, “but all three factions are working on reaching an agreement as soon as possible – preferably in December.”

SPÖ energy spokesman Alois Schroll was “somewhat surprised” about this: “So far there has not been a single round of negotiations with the ÖVP and the Greens. This is because the government does not agree internally. As with other issues, the government’s work is also on the energy transition completely silent,” Schroll said in a broadcast on Saturday. Although there was an event on this topic, it was only of a purely informative nature. In any case, the SPÖ is ready for constructive negotiations, Schroll assured.
